Dear Friends,
Ryan Koher, a Christian pilot for Missionary Aviation Fellowship (MAF), who was arrested in Mozambique on November 4, 2022, for transporting medical supplies to orphanages, is in urgent need of prayer. Koher will soon be marking his fourth month in a Mozambique prison awaiting the results of an investigation into whether or not his humanitarian work constituted “supporting terrorist activity” in the area.
According to Mozambique law, the prosecutor’s office has four months to file the results of their investigation with a judge and formally make a charge.
As the four-month deadline quickly approaches, Koher’s wife, Anabel, has reached out to us, asking for our prayers.
“We anticipate the end of the investigation and a ruling from a judge on March 6, although we understand that dates have been fluid throughout this process,” shared Anabel Koher.
These next few days are vital.
Background: On November 4, 2022, Ryan Koher, along with two South African volunteers, was preparing to deliver much-needed supplies (vitamins, over-the-counter medicine and other goods) to church-operated orphanages in the Montepuez area of Cabo Delgado province. At the airport, officials became suspicious of his cargo due to the flight’s final destination in northern Mozambique, where Islamic State-linked rebels have been terrorizing both Christians and moderate Muslims since 2017, and jumped to the conclusion that Koher’s flight was in support of insurgent activity in the area.
Koher and the two volunteers were immediately placed under arrest and the entire cargo, as well as the airplane, was confiscated.
Koher has remained in custody since his arrest without being formally charged of a crime.
Please join us in praying that:
1. Ryan Koher and the two volunteers (Eric and Willem) will not be charged with supporting terrorist activity;
2. The judge will dismiss both the findings of the investigation and the entire case against the men;
3. All three men will be released and allowed to return immediately to their families;
4. God’s justice would reign in the court of law in Mozambique.
