On March 2, a drone strike to a residential building in the seaport city of Odesa killed 12 individuals. Six of the victims were children, ranging in age from 4 months to 9 years old. Another 20 individuals were injured, with some in critical condition.
Among those who tragically lost their lives were Anna and her infant son, Timothy, who are the daughter and grandson of Baptist pastor Nikolai Sidak. They were asleep in the nursery when the strike occurred. Anna’s husband, Serhiy Haidarzh, and their daughter, Liza, who were also in the apartment, thankfully escaped injury.
Igor Bandura, vice president of the Evangelical Baptist Union of Ukraine, stated that the rescue workers discovered the bodies of Anna and Timothy a day later, March 3, underneath the building’s rubble.
At a memorial service, Serhiy shared with the church: “I was very worried that they suffered, but the doctors said they died in their sleep. They were found in the same position they fell asleep, they were together.“
Another family that suffered losses in the attack was Tetyana and Oleh Kravets who, together with three of their children, died in the attack.
Natalia Humeniuk, a spokeswoman for the Ukrainian Southern Operational Command, suggested that only a reinforced warhead could have resulted in such a degree of destruction.
